Hey all, mine is doing the same, my refrigerator is not cooling and i have ice build up on my coils i have trouble shot it to the defrost system but havent a clue as how to proceed with tracking down which part it is. Any help would be greatly appreciate, getting kind of tired of having to defrost the freezer every couple of days. My model number is frs3hr35kb Frigidaire. I also cant find the defrost timer, just the defrost therm, heater coil and the defrost switch, so havent a clue as to how to begin trouble shooting the system. Thanks again for any help!

OK, Maytag model PBF2253HEW, been a great fridge since purchased a while back. Now all of a sudden, ice cream is so cold, I need to microwave it for 30 seconds to get any out, while the fridge is warming up.
We have always ran the freezer setting at 4, fridge at 3.

Hi Rick, One of most common causes of such problem is an insufficient air flow between the freezer and the refrigerator. Check if the damper control opens properly. With door open the damper should open. - The damper control Part number: 67003903

OK Gene, pulled off the cover and checked the damper control. And it did open when I opened the door. But was real noisy. I ordered one because of the fact it was real noisy and said "made in china" :D I pulled the back off the inside of the freezer, coils all iced over. No air was able to flow from the freezer to the fridge. I took my heat gun and held it far enough away, melted off all the ice and now air flow is moving again, freezer working great, so is fridge. Thanks for your help too Gene. The wife had the freezer too full and periodically, the door would not close all the way. When this happens, we get lots of ice from the humidity around here. I suspect that happened a time or two, till it was just too iced up. All is great now. :)

I've read all the posts here and think my problem is the diffuser. I checked freezer coils , no ice just light frost. Air is blowing in freezer but not into fridge. I put my finger into opening of diffuser styrofoam on the fridge side and there was no air coming through, no ice inside. On the freezer side it seems like the vents are closed. There was some drops of condensation on underside of the plastic housing that covers it. on fridge side.
Anyway do you think that is it ? If so how do you remove the old one?

Gene, OK, I had mentioned the evaporator core was iced up almost solid, so no air flow through and up to the fridge (my complaint was ice box so cold, while fridge warms up) and I de-iced the evaporator, thought all was good. Freezer and fridge all working good. About 5 weeks later, fridge gets warm again. Sure enough, evaporator is all iced up again. The blend door at the back of the fridge is working fine. I thought maybe wife left the freezer door ajar, moist air, froze up. But while de-icing, I see this wire that runs down each side of the evaporator core and across the bottom. I was thinking it may be a heater. I checked the parts breakdown, sure enough, its a heater unit. Whirlpool 67001794 Heater, Evaporator - AppliancePartsPros.comGene, have you had this unit fail? Or maybe a solid state controller that operates it failed??? Do you have a service manual on this, give me some resistant check/specs or have you seen this often enough? Is there a diagnostic mode on this unit to check for trouble codes. I'm a dealer (Toyota) by trade, been doing that for over 30 yrs, but without a service manual, the control portion etc is hard to diagnose. Thanks in advance Gene for any help you may give me. Rick

Hi Rick, The defrost system in your refrigerator consists of three parts. They are: the defrost heater, the defrost thermostat and the control board (inside the control panel). You have to check for continuity first two parts. The normal reading for the defrost heater is about 29 Ohms while the normal reading for the defrost thermostat (ice cold) is close to 0 Ohms. If both of them are good, replace the control board. - The defrost thermostat Part number: 67003426
