When I use the front door water dispenser, a full flow of water will also go to the ice maker and overflow. This is seen by disconnecting the hose from the ice maker and routing it to my sink. When water is dispensed from the front door, water flows out the ice maker tube just as fast. The flow of water to the ice maker tube is in sync with the call for water from the front door. Also saw this by reconnecting the ice maker tube, opening the freezer door and dispensing water (while holding the door swt in). Water overflows the ice maker immediately.

I have just replaced the water inlet valve with a new valve (thinking that was the issue), so I assume this is working properly. I have double-checked that the tubes are in the correct positions and the electrical connections are in the correct positions.

Does this mean the ice maker has an issue? If so, will it need to be replaced?

Thank you,

Scott

Hi Scott,

Based on the information you provided it sounds like the diode which is wired into the water valve harness is bad (shorted).

- The diode kit Part number: 5303918287

Hi Gene,

Thanks for the response.

Based on your assessment, I referenced the wiring diagram, then unplugged the water valve connectors and tested across the diodes with my DVM. There is continuity in both directions, so I guess you're right, the diodes appear to be shorted. I'll order the diode kit and let you know how it works out.

Thank you,

Scott

Hi Gene,

I replaced the diodes today and now the front door water dispenser and ice maker are working correctly (independently).

Thank you for your assistance.

Scott

You are welcome Scott. I'm glad you were able to fix it.

Happy Holidays!

Gene.
