GE GSL25JFTA Fridge water dispensor quit, ice maker still works

Ice maker still works, water dispenser quit. Filter is about 4 mos old. I do hear 2 clicks when I press the dispenser button, so I assume the solenoids are working. I do not hear anything from the water valve assembly though - is this another solenoid that is possibly broken? If so, what is the part #? I am letting the fridge warm up a bit to see if any lines are frozen. Any insight into this issue is really appreciated.

Did you get a reply? I am having the same issue. When I push the water/ice dispensor it clicks and actually seems to short out something (the compressor stops momentarily).

Part 800 on this diagram is your water inlet valve.
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/sect/1/k/r/1krhx1gkn5.gif You can disconnect the line coming out of it and try the water dispenser to see if the valve is working. If it’s getting power it should click when you try it and water come out.
Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it does try a hair dryer blowing where the water line is at the dispenser for a few minutes.

I had the same problem. It cost me $75 to have the repair person come out and turn my temp in the refrigerator (not freezer) up to 38 degrees. The water was freezing behind the crisper and not allowing water to pass to the door.

What is the complete model number of the refrigerator? If your refrigerator operates by a control board then this part is the culprit.

Hello, I just found your site. What a great site too. I appreciate it.

I have the same issue with my GE fridge. It makes clicking sounds when I try to dispense water. It happened overnight.

It fills ice.

I have a lot of mechanical experience working aircraft for 25 years so it wouldn't be a problem to replace parts.

I have a GE GSL25JFTA BS

My wife said she has not adjusted the temp.

I always try to do as much troubleshooting without tools so I am going to try first is check the temp, then try the hair dryer trick. I did read a post however that said it might be a control board. I wonder how much that would run? I also wonder if it could be a water valve. So far from what I have read this is the site to be at!

Nothing was frozen so I narrowed it down to the control board. Bought one online for $100. But before I installed it I called GE since my refrig was less than 2 years old. They sent someone out and replaced it for free. Anyone need an unopened control board? Part number WR55X10656.

Well, I set the temp to low. Nothing. Making ice nicely.

Press water dispenser makes two clicks.

Removed front grill, placed hand on plastic tubing and pressed water dispenser. I felt movement on the tubing like it WANTED to move the water but couldn't. I looked at the coil behind the crisper, no ice there.

I wonder if there may be a problem inside the door?

Any help will be appreciated.

Disconnect the water line under the freezer door (#76 & #80 on the diagram) and place something on the floor to catch running water. Push the water dispenser lever.

If water comes out under good pressure then the water line inside the door is frozen.

If it does not then most likely the problem is a bad water valve (if there is power to the valve solenoid) or a bad main control board (if there is no power).

Hi Gene, I have a bad valve. I put my DVM on the white plug to the water dispenser valve and had my wife press the dispenser switch. I had good 120 volts. I also heard the control board click. While I was down there I had my hand on it and the orange valve clicked open sending water to the ice maker. So I know it is a bad water valve now. Nothing is frozen, checked everything.

Thank you for the link. I have an appliance repair store here where I live and they have one for $39.00. The only question I had was how to remove the water lines from the valve, well they described that to me, pull down the white ring to release the lines. Simple. So all I have to do now is buy it and replace it.

I sure do appreciate your help here. I am going to make sure my friends know about this site. I too am a moderator on a couple of forums as a volunteer so I know what it is like to help people like you do. I derive a great deal of satisfaction sharing my knowledge with others. I live to help others so I am grateful for you doing the same.
