I have a Kitchen Aid washer that will not spin. It does everything else, fills, agitates, drains but will not spin. I have replaced the motor coupling, drive block and clutch assy including the brake. I by passed the lid switch by pressing switch down with a screwdriver to eliminate switch problem. During the spin cycle it sounds like it wants to spin so I tilted the machine back to see if motor coupling and clutch were moving. Motor coupling was spinning like a champ but clutch was not moving. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help

Hi. Check if the spin tube engaging the drive block under the agitator. if it does - then you need to replace the transmission Part number: 3360629

Thanks Simon. I am in the process of replacing the lid switch assy because was told even though I depressed the switch with a screwdriver with the lid open, the switch still could be bad. I will let you know if that works. I agree with you that the transmission might be causing the problem although confused why the agitator still works. It fact it looks like it works a lot better now after I replaced the motor coupling, drive block and clutch assy. But if the switch assy doesn't fix the problem I don't know what else to replace except the transmission. So that will be the next step. Let me ask you about some issues I had when I replaced the drive block. I had real hard time removing the inner tub/basket to get at the drive block. After many applications of penetrating oil, heating with a torch and a lot of banging with a hammer it finally broke free, however, the drive block came up with the basket. The old drive block was really corroded so it probably needed to be replaced but the new drive block did not fix the no-spin problem. When I installed the new drive block it was a very tight fit. I had to hit it (not tap like the video showed) pretty hard with a hammer to get down. I did wipe the shaft down with WD40 before installing the block. Is that normal? Should it be that tight of a fit? Also when in spin mode, I noticed the motor coupling was spinning but not the clutch. Should I see the clutch spin as well? Anyway if the switch assy fix doesn't work I guess I will try to replace the transmission. Hopefully that will fix the problem or I will have almost totally rebuilt washer as very heavy paper weight. Thanks again for your help HiLife

Hi.
Do not replace the lid switch, if the washer pumps out the water that indicates that the lid switch is good. Set the washer for spin, let it drain for a few minutes, than open the lid for 5 sec. and close it . If the washer start spinning - replace the timer. Your washer is equipped with "neutral drain" transmission. Before going into the spin the water is drain out, then the timer is pausing allowing the spin gear to engage. If the timer never stops, the transmission wont go into the spin.

Thanks Simon. I had already purchased the lid switch before I got your reply so I went ahead and changed it out. Of course that did not fix the problem either. I just replaced the transmission and I am happy to say the transmission was the problem. The washer works just like new again. Spins like a champ. Quite an experience but thanks to your help, it was a learning and successful one. Thanks again.
