GE microwave JTP95 turntable turns with door open. Stops when door is closed. Almost sure a switch has gone bad, but which one?? Thank you.

That's a good question. Sticker inside oven has faded. Wiring diagram behind control panel lists several model numbers, the first being JTP95BA1. Users manual just gives JTP95. Hope you can help. Thanks!

This model number looks as the correct one. Thank you.

Sounds like the problem is a shorted secondary interlock relay which is a part of the microwave control board. So, the correction is to replace the control board.

Thanks very much Gene. Since the part is so expensive, may I please ask how sure you are that the control board is indeed the problem? Is it possible to test the relay and if so, can you let me know how? Are there are other parts I can test to help ensure the problem is indeed the board?? Many thanks for your help!

No doubt about it. Check out the schematic (attached to the post) and you'll see it. You can check the relay for continuity. It should be normally open. GE does not sell this relay separate but you can search for it using the numbers from the relay. Otherwise the only solution is the new control board.

Thanks Gene. Problem now seems to have gone away. Does these relays fail intermittently? Also, can you let me know where on the board the suspect relay is located? Can you circle it in the control board picture? Thanks again!

It is marked "RY2" in the control board.

I'm afraid it's for a short time only.

Hi Gene. Thanks again so very much for your help. Haven't gotten around to doing anything about the problem, and now the microwave doesn't always heat (sometimes it does) and when it doesn't, it seems the turntable also does not turn. Is this still the microwave control board and the same relay? Also, the "regular" oven does not seem to be working properly. Wife made three pies and they were runny. Oven fealt hot, but something is definitely not right. She also swears the oven turned on by itself. Could this also be related the microwave issue? I am guessing not, because the regular oven has a separate controller, correct? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Hello,

Most likely the new problem with the microwave is related to the same relay on the control board. You also may want to check the primary (top) interlock switch. The instructions are in the earlier attached file.

In regards of the problems with the lower oven I would suspect the oven control board. You are absolutely right - it is a separate control board.
