How to enter diagnostic mode on Frigidaire ATF7000 washer

Few days ago, my washer motor stops. It is not spinning ( neither in the "wash" part of the cycle nor in the "Spin only" part ) The error code shown ( by pressing Start/Pause and Cancel buttons ) is E57. I have gone through the testing indicated in the Service Manual. Motor is spinning freely, drum(tub) too. I have checked the resistance values of the winding, they are OK. Before to go any further with the troubleshooting,I would like to reset the error code to see if everything get back in order ( my guess is that the washer was overloaded and I have a drop in the voltage at the same time, thus producing a momentary high current in the motor ).
To enter the Diagnostic Mode, I am following the Service Manual indications :
Step 1 Turn the Program Knob to the start position, Spin Only. Step 2 Press Start/Pause to start the cycle and save it. Step 3 Press Cancel to stop the cycle and turn off the LEDs. Step 4 Press Cancel again to turn on the LEDs. Step 5 Within 5 seconds, press and hold the Options and Start/Pause buttons until LEDs start sequentially chasing, then release buttons.
Well, when getting to step 5, as pressing and holding the Options and Start/Pause buttons, nothing happened. The LEDs wont start chasing.
I am wondering if i am using the right sequence to enter the Diagnostic Mode. For instance, why does Step 1 says : turn the Program Knob to the Start Position, Spin only, when on my washer, there is no Start Position, just a Spin Only position for the knob ????
Any idea what am I doing wrong ?
Thanks by advance for your help.
Jean-Christophe

Hi Jean-Christophe, You probably can not reset the error code because the problem is not fixed yet. The Tech sheet is pretty straight with the troubleshooting for the E57 error code. Test 9 says:"If the readings (motor windings) are correct, replace the speed control board". So, the next step is to replace the speed control board. - The motor speed control board Part number: 134743500

Thank you very much for your answer Gene. As you stated, the error will remain as long as the problem is not fixed. But as this error indicates a "High current" condition, when I started the washer, and the cycle has not started yet, the motor is not energized and so there is no way to have a high current condition. So at that point, the system should show no error. I agree that if the motor is energized, then it may again present a high current condition and the error will come back. This is excactly what I want to try before ordering a new board. But in order to do so, I need to reset the errror code. The Service Manual provides explnation on how to do that, I just can't understand why can't I get in diagnostic mode. This is the heart of my question.

I believe the "start position" means start of the diagnosis test only. The error already has been sensed by the electronic control and stored in the memory. Since that happened the electronic control would not let you to clear the memory in order to prevent more damages.
I don't see what is the reason to run more tests if you have nothing to loose when you order the part from APP because you can return it any time later within 365 days if it would not fix the problem.

Hi Gene. Thank you for following up. The only reason I am holding a bit ordering the part from APP is because I don't live in the US ! I live in Venezuela, and though I can easily order the part ( many inexpensive carriers are established in Miami shipping daily to Venezuela ), to return it to APP would be very difficult ( I don't know a single carrier handling shipment from Venezuela to the US, except for the "big" ones who charged a lot to handle international shipment ). But anyway, I will first check availability and pricing here in Caracas, and eventually I will then order from APP. Thank you for your help

I finally did manage to enter the diagnostic mode, but only to confirm that the motor control board was bad. Anyway, I feel more confident to change the speed control board now that I can see that the error is coming back anytime the motor will try to start. In oder to achieve getting into Diagnostic Mode here is what I have done : 1/ Unplug power cord 2/ Disconnect from the main control board the terminal with the 5 smalls wires connecting the main control board ( in the front panel ) to the motor control board ( located near the motor in the back ) 2/ Replug power cord, start any cycle, cancel it, read error code ( by holding Start/Pause and Cancel ). I now have a E50 code in state of my E57 code. E50 is for communication problem, which is true as I have interrumpted communication bertween the two board. 3/ Unplug power cord. Reconnect wires betwwen the two boards. 4/ Replug power cord. Now, I have again gone through the steps to enter the Diagnostic mode, as stated in the Washer Tech Data Sheet ( I found it inside the washer, once removed the top panel ), and this time it worked !!! 5/ I have then erase the last error code ( E50) following the instructions of the Washer Tech Data Sheet. 6/ Unpluged and Repluged power cord, check error code again : E00 : everything back to normal. 7/ Again I have entered the Diagnostic Mode and this time I have tried each of the elements of the washer one by one as stated in the procedure of the test, and when it came to step 6 ( washer will fill and tumble ), the washer beeped, leds flashed, and the E57 code showed again. Diagnostic confirmed for a bad motor control board.

Hi Jean-Christophe,
I'm glad you were able to find the way how to clear that error code and confirm the cause of the problem. Good job!
I wanted to say thank you for sharing your diagnosis with us. Your post will definitely help other people with similar problems.

Hi Gene. Just a quick word to tell you I have installed a new control board today and everything is back to normal. I am just wondering why the board has failed, the washer is less than 4 years old. But we have had a lot of trouble with the power supply lately ( quality of public service is getting worst ) and we sometime have serious voltage drop. Could this be the reason of the board failure ???? Anyway, I have installed a voltage surge protector on the washer power plug, just in case. Jean-Christophe

You are welcome Jean-Christophe. I'm glad you were able to fix it.
It was very good idea to install a surge protector.
