Fridge will not run. Only the light is on. This unit sat unused for a few years. When I plugged it in it ran for a few seconds (3-5) then quit.

I read an old post elsewhere that described bypassing the cold control thermostat. I tried that, nothing happens. I do hear the mechanical motor of what I think is the defrost rely near the cold control therm. I can hear it purr whether the thermostat is jumped or not.

Any advice to trouble shoot further?

You seem to be missing the last digit or so in the model number.
Here are the units that come up when I search using your number.
See Matching Model Numbers panel.

If the unit has a defrost timer then you may be in a defrost cycle.
Give it half an hour to see if it comes out of defrost.
If not turn the defrost timer cam to force it out.
There is usually a hole in the control console cover to let you do this without dismantling anything.
If it now comes out of defrost, replace the timer.

Thanks for the tip. After reading a bit more on this problem it was what I was thinking. I had it apart anyway and can hear the timer running so I just turned the cam.

Unit started right up. Must have been just coincidence that the timer was was ready to activate defrost as I plugged it in. Seems to run fine now.

Thanks for your help!!
Last digit was '7', it was separated from the rest and didn't notice it.

You are welcome.

Does not sound like you will need any parts but here is a link to them just in case.
Parts for Whirlpool ET8WTKXKQ07 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.com

If nothing else it will show you where the parts are located.
