My ice maker stopped producing ice. It seems the arm wont go all the way down and the tray is stuck in the down position. I simply went without ice for a couple weeks. UNTIL...one day water started spewing from my ice maker all over the kitchen floor. I had to turn the water supply off to make it quite.
My dad recommended I replace the dual inlet valve for the ice maker. I have done so today and no water is leaking thus far. I also disconnected the arm of the ice maker to see if it will fill now.
Were these steps correct and what do you recommend from here?

Try to force cycle the ice maker. If it won't force cycle, replace the ice maker. Part# D7824706Q. To force cycle the ice-maker, remove the cover over the ice maker module and locate holes “T” and “H”. Take a small piece of wire bent in the shape of a U and short “T” and “H” together. The ice-maker will start the harvest cycle. Wait about 10 seconds and remove wire. The Ice maker will continue through the cycle. At the end of the harvest cycle the ice-maker supplies the coil on the water valve with 110 VAC.

I will give this a try. What is your opinion about the replacement of my inlet valve? Was this necessary?

Rick,
I used a loop of wire and connected the T and H holes on the outside of the cover plate. There was no response.
Is there anything else that I should try (blocked tube?) to fix it before ordering the replacement ice maker?
Also, do you recommend putting the old inlet valve back on the fridge since this did not correct the icemaker? Or should I assume that this corrected my secondary problem of the water pouring out of the icemaker? If it wasn't bad then I should just take it back to the store and save the $60.
Thanks for the advice thus far!

Here's what I think happened. The ice maker motor was worn out (common problem) and when it reached the point on the cam where it calls for water, there was enough pressure on the motor gear from the contact points it caused the motor to stall then die still supplying the water valve with 110 VAC. That's why you had to shut off the water supply. Jumping "T" and "H" supplies the motor with 110 VAC. If I'm correct, then you can unplug the ice maker and remove it from the refrigerator. Put the old valve back in. Turn the water supply back on and you shouldn't have any water leaking

Rick,
Should I replace the unit with a "bare" icemaker or a full unit?

It's best to just leave it empty and let it cycle a few times before the water reaches it. Once it starts making ice it seems to make them faster but takes about 24 hours so temperatures can stabilize.
