Gas Dryer - Intermittent heat, checked coils and igniter

I'm experiencing intermittent heat with a slight smell of gas. I've done a bit of research and was prepared to replace either the igniter or the coils. I opened everything up and ran continuity tests with my meter. The coils worked out fine and registered as anticipated. The igniter didn't register properly at first. I decided to test again and it worked. I put it back together with original parts. It worked for a load, and now intermittent heat with slight smell of gas again. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

The coils often do check fine even when they are the problem.

Thanks for the reply - Just to follow up - first check on continuity with the igniter didn't register, so I assumed it was bad. Checked it again later and it tested fine. Is it possible that the igniter could work intermittently? Or is it pretty safe to assume that the coils are bad, even though the continuity measurements checked out fine?

Just to follow up on my previous question - Is it possible for the igniter to work intermittently? or should I assume that the coils are causing the problem?

I followed the advice and changed out the coils, even though they passed the continuity test. This seems to work - the heat is much hotter and it no longer seems to be intermittent.
THANK YOU!
