We have a Maytag SAV3710AWW washer that stops at some point during the rinse cycle. When we return to the washer, we find a tub full of water and the timer shows it has finished all cycles. So even though the timer shows that the entire wash process has completed, it's clear that it has not because of the tub full of water.

Is this caused by a bad timer? Should I go ahead and order a new one? Washer is 8 years old.

We just watched the entire wash process and noticed something very interesting. The washer stayed in wash/agitate mode the whole time until the timer got to the end. We heard pretty distinct clicks as the timer would pass locations where it should have moved on to other cycles such as rinse and spin, but it never actually moved on. Like I said, it stayed in wash/agitate mode the entire time.

Seems like this might point to something. We did check the hoses and they appeared to be fine. Also, once the process ends and the tub is full of water, we then turn the knob to "extended spin" and it correctly drains the water out and begins to spin. Not sure why it works when taken straight to the spin cycle.

Any thoughts?

Well, if we leave the washer going from start to end it never actually drains. It just stays in the wash/agitate cycle the entire time.

At that point we turn the knob back around but straight to the "Extended Spin" cycle and start it from there. If we do that, it drains the water from the tub and starts to spin. However, this means that the rinse cycle never goes. To solve this, we turn on "Extra Rinse" so that when it reaches the end it starts the extra rinse. But once again the extra rinse does not end in a drain and spin. So once again we turn it to "Extended Spin" to get it to drain and spin one final time (with "Extra Rinse" now turned off).

So the system never drains and spins when it should. It's somewhat complicated so I hope I am explaining it well.

Does it seem that the timer I ordered would fix this kind of an issue?
