Whirlpool WDF310PAAW Dishwasher - Not cleaning thoroughly?

Purchased a Whirlpool WDF310PAAW dishwasher a couple of weeks ago. Low end, but did research and it seemed like a reputable and reliable dishwasher, so I felt comfortable with the purchase.
First load, I noticed that plates and bowls weren't totally cleaned with food residue left behind. Never had that with my 30 year old Maytag that the Whirlpool replaced.
Then, I noticed that when drinking from cups/glasses, I could taste soap. At first, I thought that maybe it was just because of the first load, but the problem still existed with each additional load.
I tried the heavy duty cycle, thinking that giving the unit more time would result in a more thorough clean. Nope, still not totally clean, and soapy tastes. I then tried to increase detergent, changed detergent, added cleaner agent, all with no signs of improvement.
The problem is evident on both upper and lower trays, and I've checked that both sprayer arms move freely. All drains and screens are clean.
I tried to call Whirlpool for warranty service, but they were mainly interested in telling me that it would be a charged call as "cleaning" issues aren't covered under any warranties, and that maybe I was doing something wrong. I explained that the unit is brand new and that I've been using a dishwasher for over 30 years, so I knew how to operate a dishwasher. But, the phone rep was extremely rude and wouldn't schedule a service until I verbally acceptable that the repair would be at a charge. So, I hung up thinking I would approach the retailer who I purchased the unit from and return it for a higher model, maybe a different manufacturer. The retailer would not accept a return, and would not transfer an extended warranty to another unit. So much for customer service.
So, I figure I would research this problem in hopes that someone has an idea of why I can try. If not, I'll just go to another retailer and purchase another, higher end unit and move on.
So, does anyone here have any ideas of what I can try to get better results from the Whirlpool WDF310PAAW?

Just a follow up. A friend of a friend, who is an appliance repair technician looked at the unit. It had a defective water pump. It wasn't getting enough water. Brand new, out of the box, from the manufacturer, defective.
Two loads and the load comes out clean, no problems.
It's a shame that Whirlpools customer support was so poor in handling this. They wouldn't schedule a service call unless I agreed on a service fee. Without even looking at the unit, they assumed that the problem was user error. I won't be buying a product from them again.
