I have a GE microwave model JVM1460BA01 -- One of the light blubs was burned out and when I attempted to remove the bad blub, the glass broke away from the metal screw housing. In the process of removing the metal housing (and failing to turn off the circuit breaker), something short circuited...Both light blubs have been replaced, and the microwave is heating just fine, but the lights will not operate. Would it be possible that the smartboard AP2026041 replacement would repair the surface lights? Thanks.

The part of the control board (aka smartboard) which operates the surface lights got damaged because of the short in the light bulb socket. Replacing the control board should fix the problem. - The part number for the control board AP2026041 - Here are the break down diagram for the GE microwave Model JVM1460BA01 Gene.

Hello,
I understand this to be an older post however, had exactly the same thing occur (GE microwave JVM1650BB 001) while changing light bulb base from socket. I too did not think to unplug microwave before removing metal bulb base with metal pliers.
Interested in any information on how to access control board (GE #WB27X10382) to remove and install new control board. What needs to be removed on microwave (location of screws etc.)?

Follow up;
I've successfully installed control board (GE microwave JVM1650BB 001) by doing the following;
- Unplugged microwave for about half hour to let capacitors inside microwave discharge any electricity stored (even after unplugging, the unit can still be deadly. Knowing how to discharge the capacitors is necessary).
- Next, removed the two screws (facing you) holding exhaust grill in place.
- Once grill is removed, removed the one screw holding keypad / control board in place.
- Removed keypad assembly by pulling out then up (to remove hinges from microwave body.
- Removed the 5 screws holding control board to keypad (two hold capacitor (unsure if that's what it is) in place on board).
- Once control board is hanging, removed connections one at a time and installed onto new board. You may have to remove ground wire to microwave body so board can maneuver easily. Pay attention to the ribbon connection. All you have to do is push plastic fastener up and pull ribbon out carefully. Plastic piece and ribbon DOES NOT pull out together. When installing ribbon connection into new board, push up plastic fastener on new board connector, and feed ribbon through and push into pins. When ribbon is securely in pins, push down the fastener to lock ribbon into place.
- Re-install screws to secure board to keypad, then re-install screw to secure board / keypad assembly in place to microwave body.
- Re-install exhaust grill
- Plug in microwave and let it cycle through.
-Enter, TIME, DATE etc.
