I have a Kenmore (whirlpool) elite he5t front load washer. I'm getting the F20 error code and have water coming in the machine. The Service Tech manual (that was taped inside the cabinet) "Verify there is not a siphon problem" How do I check for a "siphon problem"? I've tried disconnecting the various hoses and blowing through them. Is there something else to do?

The easiest way to do that is to take the drain hose out of the drain pipe and stick it in the laundry sink that is hopefully next to the machine.
Siphon problems are unusual, check to see if there is air getting into the drain pipe and make sure the hose is not too far down the pipe.

how do I check to see if there is air in the drain hose? (I don't have a sink next to the washer)
I'm wanting to check the siphon issue because I got an F20 error code - and the machine seems to be filling with water before it stops. So the tech manual says to check to see if there is a siphon problem. There is a little hose (1/4" hose about 8" long)that connects at one end to a larger hose coming out of the detergent thing (and going into the tub) and connects at the other end to what I'm thinking might be the device for the steam feature - because I can't figure out any other function it might have (that device also has a hose going to it from the control valve that the hot and cold water hoses connect to).. Anyway...if I disconnect that little 1/4" hose, the machine comes back on. Without a diagram of all the parts of the machine, I can't tell what is going on. I replaced the flowmeter thinking maybe it just wasn't telling the machine there was water in it. I replaced the pressure switch about a year ago.

You are not checking for air in the drain hose, but that air can get into the drain pipe. If it cannot that is what causes a siphon.

Oh....duh! I'll check that out. Seems odd though 'cause it's been working okay for 3 yrs. (other than the pressure switch).

Okay - drain hose doesn't appear to be too far down the pipe. What about that little 1/4" hose I described...why do you think the machine comes back on when I disconnect it? And...any idea what it is? And...is there any way to get a diagram that tells me what all the parts are?

You can get a parts list from this site, but for parts diagrams you will need to go to sears parts site.
If you input your full model number (110 followed by 8 digits) you can get a listing of your parts and diagrams of your machine.
