Hi,
The fan in the freezer runs far too long...6-8 hrs at a time typically. and it only ever stops for a short period in between, any thoughts on what the problem is?
defrost timer perhaps?
the temperatures seem fine and there is no issue with moisture in the freezer side.

You might have systems problems. Measure the stabilized freezer temperature and post.

the freezer is holding steady right around 0 deg F
the fridge..only for interest..is at 36/37 deg F.
the temp adj. don't list the temp, so i used a digital thermometer that we normally hang outside.

I would check the condensing coils for a clog and make shure the condensing fan is running.
If you have a spot, lazer type thermometer, check the temperature coming in the fridg from the freezer. Should be below zero. If not, you probably have system problems.

the condensing fan comes on and off as i would expect, no clogs in the coils.
what sort of system problems could it be that would make the freezer fan run so long? defrost timer? bad relay?
and actually the freezer temp has crept down a few more degree's. now at -5...but it took a while to drop from 0.

Either low on refrigerant or a worn compressor. The "normal", evaporator core temperature is around 20 below, yours is probably warmer.

I'm not the expert, that's why i'm here! but can you explain a bit how that would make just the freezer circulating fan run?
Any other diagnostics you would suggest? if the refrigerant or comp. is the problem, I need to decide which direction to go. comp. doesn't make any unusually loud noises..doesn't pop breakers.
BTW my wife grew up near State college. we were married on the school grounds actually. it's beautiful down there this time of the year!

The freezer fan motor runs when the compressor is running. Your compressor is allways running as the air from the freezer never gets down low enough to turn off the control. It is possable your cold control is shorted or the sensing tubing is not where it should be.
Yes, State College is a great place also for sports fans.
