My Whirlpool Conquest side by side fridge/freezer is working fine, but the rim around the door is hot to the touch, almost burning. I know this can't be normal. What is it?

Usually because of the condenser fan at the back on the bottom behind the cardboard cover. Make sure it's running fast and clean the condenser coils while you're back there.
If you have switch that says moisture control or something, cut it off.
