i have the belt on correctly and everything else looks good. to me there is only one way for the belt to be put on. my problem is i can not get the spring with the pulley to stay in place like it looks on the diagrams. should the pulley and spring be tight or should they be loose. with the spring lose the belt will not tighten up. please help

Spring should be tight and the idler wheel should hold the belt tight.
