I have a Kenmore 70 Series Dryer that when you try to turn it on the heating element will start to heat up because I can see it getting hot but the dryer will not spin or turn on. It makes like a ticking sound like its trying to turn on but nothing happens.

try checking the drum to see if the belt has broken it should have some resistance when you check it

Its wrapped around the drum...on the front of the dryer in between the top and front panel roughly 4 inches from each edge is metal clip. Push in on it with a flathead or paint scraper and lift at the same time to remove the top.

I checked the drum belt and it was fine there was some resistance on it and it was intact. When the problem originally started the dryer wouldn't turn on and was extremely hot. I went out and replaced the thermal fuse and then it would turn on and run but it was still extremely hot, we ran it for prob 5-10 min. After that it wouldn't turn on again so I replaced the thermostat as well but it still wouldn't turn on. Do you think by running it after the replacement thermal fuse was put in and before the new thermostat was installed would have caused the thermal fuse to blow again? When I try to turn the dryer on the heating element inside still heats up but nothing else happens the dryer doesn't turn on. Please advise.

Yes you blew the thermal fuse again. You probably need an element. It sounds as if its shorted to the case. Easy to check use a continuity check with a Multimeter. If you get continuity from either lead of the element to the case its bad

Also you need to check your vents to make sure you have good airflow.

Ok I will replace the thermal fuse again. What is the element? If I don't have a multimeter to check continuity is there any other way I can see if it is bad?

I took out the element to check it and it looks like one of the coils had been touching the casing that is right underneath the coils. I have shift the coil so that it is not touching the casing now. Could this have caused the dryer to not work since the coil was touch the casing on the dryer?
