This thing has been growling for a couple of years and the one repairman said to use less dishsoap. Now it won't even clean and it has a very sticky, almost tarish thick coating under the bottom filter part. I copied the picture of a part chart of a disassembled machine so I can see it does come apart but I can't seem to figure out how. If I had some guidance I could do it, but the only thing I have figured out is how to take the lower arm off.
I did see that the growling is due to low water problems and I have that saved under favorites to get to after dealing with this thick gunk of disgusting mess.
The whole thing needs a thorough cleaning as it has caked on detergent on every part I can see. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated as I am retired and disabled and can not afford to hire a repairman to come do this for me. Thanks.

My husband and I managed to figure it out how to take it apart and clean off that sticky sludge. We cleaned the intake filter as well as explained in another post, however the growling is still going on. We plan on running it through a few cycles with the 50/50 vinager method and hope that helps.
My husband says there is an O ring missing on the tube on the upper rack. Is this a part that is sold by itself?

Here are your parts Replacement parts for General Electric GSD6200J01WW Dishwasher | AppliancePartsPros.comIf you click on AP3187223 (Item 617 in Section 5) a new page opens with more info. The Q&A says the 0-rig is only available as part of AP3183362. Growling is often due to a low fill. Most units fill to just under the heating element. An easy way to check this is to add a couple quarts of hot water just after the fill. If the growling disappears then it is low fill. Just be careful to not overfill the tub. If it is low fill then the most likely cause is a partially plugged screen filter on the input side of the fill valve. Remove the valve and check/clean the screen filter. Do not permanently remove it as it is there to keep crud out of the valve which could hold it open and cause a flood. If the screen is OK then I would replace the valve. |

We got an O ring and the growling stopped. We did clean the filter and got some fine sand and stuff out of it. The dishes are definately MUCH cleaner now. We also got the two tub seals, the one that goes all the way around and the 22" one that goes on the door. The all around one was easy to replace, however we can't figure out how to unsnap the door one. We unscrewed the front but that didn't help. What are we doing wrong?

Thank you. Another problem has come up. Since we unscrewed thr front door panel and rescrewed it back on, the dishwasher won't start. The start button and the china/crystal button don't work at all. What did we do? How can we fix this?

Remove power from the unit and the inner door panel.
sounds like you may have loosened the connection between the console/keypad and the control board.
Disconnect it and tyhen reconnect it.
Might not be a bad idea to clean it.
Connector Cleaning / Checking
Unplug the unit
Open it up
Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board.
Clean the edge connector. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.
If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive.
Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here.
Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates.
Reconnect everything and give it a try. |

Reconnect everything and give it a try. We did everything you mentioned and it didn't work. My husband is a mechanic and he had everything you mentioned. We checked the ribbon and couldn't see any broken wires or cracks, but the part that plugs into the door is brittle near the plug. Is a new control panel and ribbon available and if so what is the part number so I can check for pricing? I can't find it on the parts page listed on the site.

Yes, after looking at the price, we figure the same. For now, our old one will be my super duper large capacity built in dish drainer.
