Sorry for another "My dishwasher won't drain" thread. I have read all of them here as well as other forums but all issues seem a little different.

MY GU1500XTKSO Whirlpool dishwasher is a hair over 10 years old and has always worked flawlessly with 2 exceptions. When it was 2 years old it blew fuse #675796 and was replaced under warranty.

Then, about a month ago, my wife noticed that the dishwasher didn't drain. The dishes were clean but it didn't drain. I pushed the drain/cancel button and just heard a low HUM... Nothing else. I tried this 3-4 times with the same result. I let it sit for about an hour then decided to try a short wash. It drained the old water out then started its cycle. It worked great and worked fine for almost a month. Then yesterday it happened again. I tried what I had done before... Pretty much the same exact way. Same HUM... then I tried the wash. However, this time it started leaking at the front bottom... So I turned it off.

I have seen several parts mentioned to fix this issue but it seems that not everyone has the same exact issue. I'm leaving for a week and would like to be able to order a part so that it is here next week so I can fix this next weekend. I have just about every tool made and am capable. I just need a little direction as to what part I should order.

Okay... I found the pump. Disconnected leads Blue/black and Gray, hooked up my volt meter and turned on the drain/cancel button. I am reading 109 volts exactly.

Would this small descrepancy in voltage be enough to keep the pump from working?

Also... If I need to buy a pump how do I go about replacing it? It appears that I must drain all the water, pull it out and flip the dishwasher on its back to do the job... Is that right? It almost looks like the whole assembly is one piece but I only had a limited view while disconnecting the blue/black and gray wires for testing the pump. I didn't have a helper... I lifted with one arm and pulled the wires with the other.

One other thing... I assume that these pumps are welded together and cannot be taken apart for repair... Has anyone ever tried working on them?

I ordered the pump and was done in 20 minutes from start to finish.

To swap it out... Drain as much water as you can, disconnect the power at the breaker, remove the drain hose (and clean the disposal port while you're at it... It's gonna need it!) turn of the water and disconnect the water supply hose. Remove the kick plate and then pull out the dishwasher and tilt it back up against the cabinet it came out of. Place an old large towel underneath the dishwasher as you WILL get water coming out. I drained all I could get with a turkey baster and still got about 2 cups of water out....

Disconnect the gray and blue/black wires to the pump and then unconnect the pump by twisting it counter clockwise! It IS that easy! There are a few plastic sections that push out of the way easily (you'll see) and there is a catch that you must depress before you can twist it... But it literally swaps out in seconds!

While you have the pump out... Look into the cavity that it goes into to make sure you have no debris in there and then reassemble by doing everything in reverse!

The parts from this place fit to a "T" and they deliver VERY quickly. I also had to replace the ignitor on my Whirlpool gas stove as it kept trying to light the flame and couldn't. That was about a 15 minute job. This is EASY stuff to do with a screwdriver only! Why pay $800 for a new dishwasher or $300 to get it fixed. A $47 part fixed mine... That and 20 minutes of my time!
