I cannot close the upper oven door on my older built in wall unit. The oven works fine but recently the door started not closing fully & the Self Cleaning lever does not engage or lock. The door seems to be out of alignment slightly. When the door was removed the problem seems to be that the right hinge has a broken moving lever piece (acts as a stop). After much shifting/pulling & pushing on the door it did close fully but came “off track” again after one use. It was a temporary fix but I need a permanent repair.
I researched online and with Maytag and the hinge is discontinued-unless an existing part can be found. The lower oven has 2 identical hinges in excellent shape since Inever use it. If the problem is indeed the hinge and no part or substitute is ,available, is it possible, practical and cost effective to exchange/replace a working hinge from the lower over? Is that an extensive or costly repair job? I do not care if the lower oven door does not close perfectly as I never use it. I also do not want to pay for a costly repair due to the age of the oven. Thanks for your help. Rose.

Hi Rose,
Unfortunately the hinges for the upper oven door and for the lower oven door are not interchangeable.

Gene. Gene, thank you very much for your reply. Any options on repair? The oven works fine.... I've been assuming that the hinge was the problem---is there anything else it could be?

The only solution I see is to find a handyman who can fix the old door hinge.
Gene.
