motor spins one direction to wash/agitate.spins opposite direction to rinse or spin tub agitate shaft keeps turning ,not supposed to.is this transmission or could it be something else.i am very mechanical tempted to disassemble tranny to inspect (direct drive kenmore)any help greatly appreciated

Can you be more specific about what it is doing, I am not sure exactly what the problem is. It does sound like your transmission is the issue though and replacing it is not a difficult job.

Interesting, that it will go through the cycles with the agitator off.
I still suspect the transmission is the issue but you will have to replace it to be certain. If you buy from this site and the new transmission does not fix things you can return it.
