I tried to look at other pages for my question but didn't find one, I'm sure it's there somewhere. soo....
My Dryer won't rotate until I push it, but the motor is running as you can hear it. After a couple of minutes, it will turn off and won't come back on for a couple of minutes. I assume it is shorting out and has to cool down until restarting.
So do I need to replace the Drum rollers, Front Bearing, Belts & motor?
I would like to using it as much as possible rather than throwing it away.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Are you sure that the motor is actually turning or can you just hear a buzz. This is often the motor trying to start but cannot because of a problem (one of the windings burned out, bearings or centrifugal switch. It is turning off, once you get it started because it is overheating and tripping it's internal temperature cut off. Unless the drum is hard to rotate you probably need a new motor. The drum is hard to rotate on it's own, even with me spinning it. It seems like the drum is off track but it doesn't seem as if it has a track that it rotates on.

No, there is no track.
The 2 rear support rollers run in a hollow at the back of the drum.
The drum rests on 2 plastic glides on the front.

I appreciate all the advice! But I still don't know what is wrong.

So it is difficult to rotate on its own or by hand. Is it the motor that is not having enough power to rotate it???

By hand, this tells you if the drum has too much drag on it so the motor cannot turn it.
Is it the motor that is not having enough power to rotate it???

I cannot answer that, you have to open the unit up a find what is causing it.
Often it is the front support glides or perhaps the idler wheel or the drum seals.
Spin the motor without the belt on it to see if the bearings are OK.
You may want to try turning the drum by hand on a couple other dryers, just to get a feel for what the normal amount of drag is. Then if your's is close to this your drum supports are OK and you need a new motor. |
