My gas dryer will not ignite. The glow bar turns red-orange for 30 secs then I hear a click and it goes out. I can smell gas afterwards but it doesn't light. The ignitor has about 71 ohms resistance and the hi limit, thermostats, fuse, etc all show continuity. I've already replaced the coils without any luck. Thanks.

Hi.

The problem you are describing is definitely has to do with the control coils and or the gas valve. Please check how did you installed the coils. Have you put back the little insert on the dual coil shaft? Are the holes on the top of the bracket aligned with the coil's little bumps?

Here is the breakdown diagram and Gas valve replacement parts for Maytag MDG3500BWW DRYER- GAS | AppliancePartsPros.com

Thank you.Post the results.

Simon.

I did put the bracket back on and lined the bumps up with their holes in the bracket. I took the burner assembly off a few minutes ago and made sure there was not an obstruction in there or the gas valve orrifice but I still have the same result.

The ignitor glows for 10-12 seconds then a click and it goes off for 30-45 secs followed by glowing again. I still smell gas but no flame.

I put the coil with three prongs farthest from the burner as that is what I remembered when I took them off. The diagram appears to show the opposite though. What would happen if I switch the two coils?

Hi.

You put the coils in the correct order. Did you check if the insert is inside the 3 prong coil or on the shaft?
If everything is OK - then replace the gas valve.

Thank you.

Simon.

I didn't even see the insert before. It was still on the shaft and the coil was over that. Is there any way to test the gas valve to make sure before buying a new one?

I don't know why this would matter but I closed the panel and tried again and it is heating up perfectly now. I can't find any sensors in the housing that would let it know its closed but it seems to be working. Thanks for the help.
