The coin operated dryer don't want to turn on. When you enter the money then press the start button, there is a buzzing sound and turning of the drum. I've check the lint filter and verified that there are no debris. I turned on the dryer again, this time it did work for a while then turned off during a cycle and would not turn back on. Do I need a new motor? (Sears wants $105.99 for part number 279827.)

Try rotating the drum manually, it should turn fairly easily. If OK This may take two people Open the door Hold the door interlock switch closed Hit the start button and while it is buzzing turn the drum in the correct direction by hand. Watch your knuckles as it may start up. If it does start odds are very high that you need a new motor.
I would not order parts till you open it up. Check the idler roller, front glides, drum seals, belt, rear rollers etc. for wear and bearing slop. You might as well overhaul it, while you have it open. This will give you a better idea of total repair cost.
Your Model Number seems to missing the first three digits so I could not look up the motor's price on AppliancePartsPro give them a call. Probably a lot cheaper. |
