As indicated in the title, when we turn the oven on bake the ignitor glows, and we smell gas. I inspected the wires to the ignitor and they are all in good shape. The resistance on the ignitor is about 170. I checked the gas lines and they are all connected.
All I can think of is valve may have gone bad. Is their anything else I should check? How do I check the valve?
Additional information:
After unplugging the ignitor to test it, and checking the wire connections to the valve, I turned the oven back on Bake. After about three minutes, the oven lit. The ignitor glowed orange, but did not get to white. Does this indicate a week ignitor? How much resistance should the ignitor have? I would like to test it before I replace it.

Your igniter must supply over 3 amps to open the gas valve. I would just replace the igniter (AP3963540) and verify the current with an amprobe. Rather rare, but you might have a bad gas valve or clogged burner holes. I would not replace the igniter till you have a amprobe to verify you have no other problem.

I don't have an amp probe. My multi-meter does volts (ac /dc) and resistance. Would you advice purchasing an amp probe, or just replacing the ignitor? the amp meter is more expensive than the ignitor.
