I just got my new replacement fridge today. My old GE one broke down after 5 yrs of service (warranty replacement). I was told by the salesman that it was possible to remove the ice maker from the fridge and that there should be instructions. I can't seem to find it. In my old fridge the original owners had the ice maker removed as well.
I need to remove it to make space for freezer items I don't have a water line to my fridge. The nearest is ten feet away on the opposite side of the kitchen. I've lived without an ice maker for 5 years, I need freezer space more to store my infant's milk.
The ice maker has a modular plug that connects to the back of the fridge. I think that's all I need to remove. However, I don't have anything to cover up the plug ( nothing but the manual was provided).
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Michael

Michael,
The ice maker is secured with the two screws on top of it and one screw under the ice maker. In order to remove the plug you have to push the two its locking tabs simultaneously and pull it out. You do not have to cover up the plug. It is safe to use it as is.

Thanks Gene I'll try that. I was just afraid that the open socket might cause a short if ice or water from the freezer got into it.

My model # is 596-76604600. Will this work to remove my ice maker?
