MY Maytag washer has been making a "clicking" noise before rinsing the last few weeks. It then stopped draining water out at the beginning of the spin cycle. It would be possible to get it to drain by opening and closing the lid for a few loads. However:after doing this several times ,I found the tub full of water after the rinse cycle had ended and opening and closing the lid failed to produce any effect at all. A burned smell filled the air and the machine does not respond at all.Is it possibly just the lid switch ? Or more involved.

Most likely the problem is a bad pump. I'm afraid that the burned smell could come from the motor and the motor is damaged. Remove the front panel. Lift the washer up from the front. Remove the belt and check how freely the pump is moving in both directions. Run the washer without the belt to see if the motor works. - The part number for the pump is AP4372886 - The part number for the motor is AP4024680Here are the break down diagrams and Replacement parts for MAYTAG MAV7600AWW | AppliancePartsPros.comGene.
