Hello,

I am thinking of buying a 36" built in Kitchen aid. The owner says it was a display unit in a cabinet shop.
it has never been used, but has no compressor units attached up on top. all the rest is complete, trim panels etc.

So my question.......please bare with me i know this is vague, I don’t expect definitive answers........

have you ever heard of this type of scenario.

1. Do these fridges come partially assembled, ie. cooling unit was misplaced, then lost.

2. Is there a modular cooling unit that could be purchased and installed??

3. Could the condenser coils have been open to the outside air for five years, so that I have someone install a compressor, it would immediatly fail from contamination in the rest of the fridge. Or is it possible to blow these lines out with nitrogen or something.

any help and info would be appreciated, I’m not familiar with built ins, and where the components are located. And have not had good luck finding this information anywhere.

4. Are all the components located up top, or are there coils that run down into the fridge?

How is defrosting accomplished?

I have looked up the compressor part and it looks like it would cost 180.00 plus a tech to install it.

If this is covered elsewhere, ie. how the components and things on these fridges work please direct me to that info.

Thanks for your help, I appreciate your time

James
Ps I am purchasing this unit for $140.00.
. I could email a link to the ad, with pictures if it would help, there is a pretty clear picture of the top of the unit without the trim attached

Thanks again!

James,

$140 for the refrigerator which is over $6000 for a brand new is nothing. Check if there is no cosmetic damages outside and inside. Make sure all other parts are in place. I would recommend to hire a refrigeration pro to check the unit before you pay for it. Even if the cost of repair will be more than $1000 it's still worth it.

Gene.
P.S. I never heard about refrigerators sold without compressor, even for a such model.

ok, that's what i was thinking, Even if it costs a thousand to get it running it is worth it.

I think i will just take the chance and buy it.

is there anyplace that i can find layouts of how these built ins work? not detailed stuff, just the basics,
they have a compressor up top, condensor and evap coil are also up top?

fans to blow air from the refridge and freezer compartments to the coils with temp sensors to turn everything on?

James,

I could not find the diagrams for this model. I really do not recommend you to fix it yourself. Sometime the best way to save money is to pay to a professional and any job involved Freon requires a special certification.

I wasn't suggesting i would fix it myself, I am fully aware i couldn't do that.

I was just looking for the basics of how these work, so when i go look at it i would know what im looking at better. i'll have an appliance guy come repair it

Go to the Whirlpool website
Then the Owner Center
Manuals
Enter the Model Number
Should be able to get Operators & Parts info

The big questions are:
What is missing from the unit
What is the cost of the items
Are the parts you need available. Brackets, covers, wiring harnesses etc. may not be available.
THIS FORUM IS DEAD!!!!!!!

Thank you,
I was able to print off a schematic for the unit, like you said i can now sort of figure out how much of it is missing.

if it is mostly there, and doesnt seem to be damaged, i will buy it and look for someone to repair and get it running again.

Do you folks know of anyone in Salt lake that would be able and affordable?

Thanks again for your time and help!

James

Gene,

Sorry to contact you via a general post, but I could not find a PM link to you.

I'm looking for a general "Service ID #" which I can use to access the service menu on our Dacor MOV230S. I have the service manual, and am highly skilled at such servicing, but the requirement to guess at a minimum four digit service ID eludes me. You can contact me via a PM or via "curta.info at gmail period com" if you'd like.

The Service ID# provided to the authorized servicers only. There is no way for me to get one.
