I have replaced the coupler and the clutch. Now, when the washer completes a spin cycle, and the brake is applied, the basket stops almost instantly, but it sounds like something is still spinning. Metal on metal and grinding... First thought was the brake, but it stops the basket.

Next thought transmission, but with motor out I can spin the coupler and the agitator turns the way its supposed to, and the clutch will engage the basket when turned the other way.

It could be due to a drugging brake shoes. You can find more useful information in one of our previous threads: http://forum.appliancepartspros...-washer-brake-shoes.html

If you'll need more assistance, post the complete model number of the washer.

Gene.
