when i had the lower front access panel off my dryer late last nite.. just looking to see if i could see a belt problem ... i reached my hand back and felt the belt... how much "play" should be in the belt ? when I touched it i seemed to be able to move it up and down pretty easily, but I wasn't sure if that much "play" was normal ?

To get at the motor you usually have tpo take off the front.
hard to say how much tension the belt should have. What you think is low tension I might think is medium or high tension. If the belt is not slipping on the pulley or drum the tension is correct. |

ok... here's what i just tried: (i can see why service calls are so much ... cause it's a pain in the rump just to take the dang dryer apart... atleast for me it was) i removed the lower front panel... removed the blower cover, the blower fan turns free, no obstructions i removed the rear of the dryer i disconnected all the electronic connections i could see, and replugged them back in i checked the belt, belt looks fine i removed the belt from the pulley/motor and the motor moves fine and easily if i turn the motor shaft by hand the pulley and the motor shaft don't look worn or anything i put the belt back on, and ran an air only cycle (so not to burn it up) the motor hums, but doesn't have enough gusto to turn anything i took my hand, while the dryer was still on , and manually rotated the drum a little to get it started... it started and moved, but if i put any bit of load on the drum (i just pushed down on it with my hand while it was rotating, the motor stops and just sits there and hums) it seems to me like when the dryer is powerd on... and the drum wasn't moving (when i had the rear and top off the dryer) i could take my hand and pull up on the belt i looked down and the shaft was moving... but belt wasn't acting tight enough to grab or something... but when the power is off.... the belt is on there snug... - aaron Originally Posted by: denman To get at the motor you usually have tpo take off the front.

You are welcome
And thanks for getting back to us. Now when others search for a similar problem they will see what actually worked instead of just suggestions about what could be the cause. |
