Ok, I know my dryer is old but I cant afford to replace it so I keep fixing it when things go wrong. Last week the dryer quit working on the the "auto dry" cycle. When I say quit working I mean drying, everything else fine. We were using the timed cycle and everything was working good until yesterday when that seemed to quit too. Today I took the front panel off to expose the burner and igniter and turned the timer on and it fired right up. I tried "auto dry" and nothing happens with the igniter, it wont glow. I tried it on "wrinkle free" and it worked. So my question is what is the the problem here? Any clues as to why it quit heating all together the other day? Is there some kind of safety on the burner that shuts the gas off? I ask because my wife had used the timer cycle the night before and the clothes werent completely dry so she accidently placed the dryer "auto dry" and it was running for about 3-4 hours wihout heating. What needs replacing? thanks!

UPDATE: Put the dryer back together and it wount ignite. Took the panel off to watch what was happening and the igniter would glow orange for 5-10 seconds then go out. I'm guessing the problem lies with the coil(s)?
