First let me say any advice will be appreciated as I just can't believe my refrigirator is not worth fixing. All of a sudden out of the blue every thing stopped working except for the lights that come on when doors are opened. The digital control that has the on/off button as well as temp control with led lights etc was as though it has no power as all the led lights were off and no response on any of the controls. Repairman comes out and says well it could be the one of the two or three circuit boards and the only way to know was to order them and see if that fixes it but regardless I must pay for them even if they were not faulty adding that while he doubts there is any problem with compressor the unit is still not worth fixing. I am reasonably handy with tools and later inspected the circuit boards and could not find any obvious damage. The little circuit board in the main controls is like there is no power coming to it and I am just curious if I could put a tester on the three wires that plug in to this board to see if in fact that is the case as the repairman said it could not be checked that way. Anyway I just thought it would be worth a shot at posting as all the service centers I called said they could not help me. Thanks to everyone and my fingers are crossed. richard e

Hi Richard, I hope you didn't have to pay that guy a service fee. You could have pulled anyone off the street and probably get a better answer than his. This guy is the reason why people are afraid to call for service (and come to us instead :)). Anyway, on to the problem at hand. This refrigerator has a main board near the compressor. See #36 on this diagram. First unplug the refrigerator. Then check this board visually. Make sure the harness is securely plugged in. Look at both sides of the board for any possible burnt marks, unplug and inspect the harness as well (I know you said you did this already, but maybe double check just in case). Have you had a power surge or a power failure recently? This would probably damage the board (always a good idea to use a surge protector by the way). There is a number of things that may have failed on the main board - low voltage transformer, fried connection, bad relay. You can also check the display board, which is inside the fridge, #3 on this diagram. If you know how to use a voltmeter and know how to read wiring diagrams, I can send you the right diagram for your model. Your refrigerator is certainly worth fixing. Looks like it's only a couple of years old. How much was it? $1500-$1700? I wouldn't throw it away, unless I had to replace every single thing in it, which you won't have to do since you sent that "repairman" guy off on his way. Let me know what you find. P.S. If I had to make a not-so-educated guess, I'd replace the main board.

Wow, thanks so much for the reply! I did inspect the one board that pluged into the main harness (item 31 in diagram) but this board was on the far left side wall held in by two screws. based on the diagram it appears that the board you are refering to is in a different location and i wonder if the layout of the whirlpool and kitchenaid is the same. there was certainly no power surge prior to it going out but I suppose we could have had one some other time but if so we had no other problems. I do have a volt meter but have only used it to test the voltage in batteries but will certainly get some help with proper settings to do the various test you recommend. I think the unit was around $2,000 but the repairman said it was junk due to 230 volt compressor and the unit was clearly made for export. Anyway please send the wiring diagrams as I am committed to fixing it as I just can't get a new one. Thanks again for your help as I feel much better and now have some genuine optimism. Richard

Richard, Whirlpool owns KitchenAid, that is why every part has "made by Whirlpool" next to it on the diagrams. The diagrams though are specifically for your KitchenAid model. - Wiring diagram for model KSCS25FKSS00"...but the repairman said it was junk due to 230 volt compressor..." - We fear what we don't understand :), ok I'll give that guy a break, maybe it was his first service call.
