My 2007 GSH model GE side by side ice maker makes ice just fine but shortly afterwards it freezes into a big ball of ice. Also, there are frozen drips hanging on the bottom of the tray itself and back behind it as well.
In addition to this, when I tested the auger with an empty ice tray, it doesn't turn but the motor hums like it should. Could the auger assembly some how be frozen? Both sides (refrigerator and freezer) temuratures are normal and food freezes like it should. Really, other than the ice melting and freezing together along with the auger not turning, the fridge works great! The water dispenses and everything. If the auger is a frozen issue, where should I be focusing on thawing? What is causing the ice cubes to turn into a glacier? I'm fairly handy with these sort of things, I just need to know what part I need to be checking/replacing.
Thanks in advance!

I didn't get any feedback on this forum, but I figured it out (the auger issue) on my own. I'll share in case anyone else is interested. I dismounted the auger motor and thawed it completely. The motor went from just humming to actualy turning. Since the ice cubes have been producing just fine all along, the auger is dispensing them well now. Whether or not the ice cubes will continue to freeze into a mass, remains to be seen. Perhaps the freezer thawing resolved that issues as well. We'll see.
Hope this helps someone. Best of luck!

Nine Years Later - and yes .. i did the same .. my condenser starter went out, fridge stopped working and all the ice melted.. filling the auger motor. Not knowing this, the motor froze after the fridge/freezer was restarted.
Pulled the Auger motor out and let sit for a couple a days to ensure all the moisture was out as best I could - then reinstalled.
