My refrigerator sat for a while and when I got it the fan was rusted in the freezer would not work, had to clean the rust off it. It is running fine now, but will not cool, can feel compressor running but can not hear it and the compressor gets hot.

Hi.

Do you hear repeated clicking sounds coming from the compressor every few minutes?

Open the evaporator cover in the freezer and check if the coils are frosted.

Post the results.

Simon.

Hi, Charles.

I'm afraid there is a sealed system problem. To repair that you would need a pro repairman and that could be pricy.

Thank you.

Simon.
