We have a kenmore dishwasher that leaks above the center motor. When the center spins, water mists from the bottom of the dishwasher on top of the motor The model number is 665.17798790. It's about 14 years old and has never given us any problems.

Any ideas on what the problem may be? Seals? Also, any instructions on how to tear apart and replace the suggestion parts you might have would be very helpful.

Thanks.

*sounds like the seal between the motor and the pump yet you could also have a hose that perhaps a rodent ate a whole into. open the door fill the unit with water let is set and watch to see where the moisture comes from.
close the door hit the cancel button to pump out the excess water. then do your repair or call a tech.

If this is a unit manufactured by whirlpool with a horizontal mounted motor, the problem is most likely caused by a leaking motor seal. Once the seal leaks, water wil start dripping onto the floor and some will migrate into the motor bearing causing the bearing to rust and eventually stop. Once the bearing is bad, it will be very noisy and the only solution is to replace the motor or replace the dishwasher.

If you find out that the seal is leaking and the motor still sounds fine, repace the seal immediately. You can buy the seal kit below

Part number: 8193510
Part number: 8193510

There are several other places that sell this kit but they are a little more expensive.

Good luck.

I ended up buying the seal kits and replaced all of them. In the end, the seal you mentioned above that had a spring inside of it was the problem. Thanks for the reply everyone!
