Had the problem of ice building up on the bottom of the freezer and leaking out the freezer door. Took the back panel off and used a hair dryer to melt the ice and clear the drain hole. within 2 days I notice the ice build up is back. What could be causing the drain hole to keep freezing up? If it were the defrost timer or heater element not working, the ice on the coils wouldn't melt and drain to the bottom of the freezer, right? Could a bad door seal cause this? Thanks for any advise you can give....

You are going to need to remove the back wall of the freezer and clean out that drain, then flush it with hot water. Sometimes I even have to run something flexible down the drain to clear out the obstruction. Just defrosting it isn't going to help. The water should go down the drain pretty quickly, if it drains slowly then its still plugged up.

Thanks for the response, ThatGuy. I did remove the back and clear the drain hole with a hairdryer, put a flexible rod down to verify it being clear. One day later the ice is back. It has to be defrosting or the water wouldn't be draining and freezing in the bottom of the compartment? Wonder what would make the drain hole keep freezing up? Thanks again!

I'd say you still have something plugging up the drain. Try pouring water into it and sucking it out with a shopvac, or blowing it out with compressed air. That water should drain out before the Refrig. starts back up after defrosting. If it doesn't it will freeze in the tube. I usually see mold growing down in the elbow, that's why I said to use hot water.

I had the same problem. Finally took the drain hose and run it straight to the pan no trap straight so it drain all the water out of hose.no ice in the bottom. Horray. Thanks Phillip
