Frig slowly stopped cooling over past few days and now I have opened it up and compresor , fans coils are all good and working although compressor is hot to the touch ,
I have know discovered the evaporator coils are snowed in solid and am now defrosting . Any suggestions on what to do when I get this mess thawed out ?

Most likely the problem with your fridge is a faulty defrost system. I hope you did not defrost the fridge yet, otherwise it's going to be harder to diagnose the problem or you should wait until the ice builds up again. The only test you can do if the fridge is defrosted is continuity on the defrost heater. Locate the defrost timer (#23 on the controls break down diagram) and, using a flat screwdriver, slowly turn the central shaft CW until it clicks. The compressor should stop and the refrigerator is in defrost mode now. Wait about 10 minutes and check the defrost heater (#14 on the system break down diagram). It should be hot and you should hear a sizzling noise. If you heard it, then the defrost timer is bad and has to be replaced. If you did not hear it, then check the defrost heater for continuity. Replace if it's open. If the defrost heater is closed, then replace the defrost thermostat (#21 on the system break down diagram). - The part number for the defrost timer AP2111929 - The part number for the defrost heater AP2114859 - The part number for the defrost thermostat AP2150024 - Here are the break down diagrams for the Frigidaire refrigerator Model FRS20ZRGB1Gene.

Thanks Gene,
I was able to manually turn the defrost timer to start defrost mode it went into mode for about 30 min . I felt the heater line and the thermostat during the defrost cycle and the heater cord never got warm but the themostat was hot when touched. The snowy ice was only have melted off the evaporator when I did this, so my guess is the timer is ok but is either the themostat or heater bad ?

Most likely the thermostat is bad.
