Greetings... I have a Whirlpool ED5SHAXMQ10 side by side. Freezer and fridge seem to cool sufficiently, and I'm looking to keep it that way. :)

Yesterday I started noticing relay clicking on regular intervals. The fan is on constant with the following cycle:

- Compressor comes on for 7 seconds
- audible click noise heard and compressor turns off.
- 3 minutes passes and cycle is repeated

I have pulled the unit out but haven't cleaned the coil yet.
Is this symptom likely pointing to a faulty overload or start relay? Hoping it's not a compressor. Thanks in advance!

Pry off the start device on the side of the compressor, if it rattles when shaken, it's bad. If it looks like AP3962960, just order it here, you will have little problems wiring it, just plug in the fridg connector and the run capacitor. If not, let us know, but do not use a universal device.

Thanks Rich.. there is a very subtle rattle in the start device. Do I need to replace the run cap while doing the start dev? What about the overload relay? I've read elsewhere that sometimes it is necessary to replace the start device and overload relay together, not sure on this model.

Very rare the run capacitor fails. The start device mentioned has everything in it, the overload klixon and the ptc start device.

Just wanted to stop back and mention that the start device did the trick. Appreciate all the help!
