My Kenmore washer is three years old. It does everything correctly but spin out. I replaced the lid switch and I checked the coupler and both are doing fine. Sometimes the basket will spin like one revolution and then stop. I will advance the basket and it doesn't help, although it used to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. The problem you have should be solved with replacing the clutch assembly. Use the attached video clip for the step by step instructions. The clutch Part number: 285785
Good luck. Post the results. Simon.

Thanks for the advise on the clutch. I replaced the clutch yesterday and washed a load and it worked great. Now it doesn't work again and this time I smell an electrical smell like when a motor is laboring...i'll check the coupler, but i don't smell a rubber smell...am i in tranny trouble yet?

Hi. Check if the clutch and everything ells is installed correctly. Check if the drain pump isn't jamming. Does the washer agitates? Can you manually turn the transmission to spin the basket?
Simon.

Thank you for the feedback. I got the basket to spin again, but it only does a fast spin when empty. When loaded, it's almost like it can't handle the weight. Also, a while back we found some small pieces of metal in the basket and grease on our clothes and we're convinced that it came from the washer. Is there some type of connectors from the shaft to the basket that could have broke? I wonder if that is why the machine won't spin when under load. Thanks again for the advise and any more insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Remove the agitator and check the drive block. Use the video clip. The drive block Part number: 389140
Thank you. Simon.

Thank you for the advice. I pulled the drive block. A few questions to diagnose it: should it slip around the shaft when seated (basket off), should there be grease on the outer drive shaft (there is grease on the inside of the drive block)? I see minimal wear. Looking at how this works, I can see this being the problem with my symptoms. It spins when there is no weight in the basket, but when I load the basket, the weight makes it slip. Can wear be seen on the drive block or is it just one of those things you replace and see? Thanks for all your help. I sure appreciate it!
