Our ice maker (Kenmore bottom freezer refrigerator) had stopped producing ice. There were frozen cubes in the trays, but they wouldn't dump. In an attempt to get it working, I made the freezer colder (6 on a 7 scale), and the ice in the try seemed to become less frozen. I then changed the freezer to a 2 (1 is the warmest freezer setting on this model) and it pumped out ice ever 2 hours or so for a day then it seemed to slow down again. I bumped the temp to 3 and got a few more trays and now it's stopped again. In the 48 hours that I've experimented, I've made about half a bin of ice.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this? And, would the ice maker be difficult replacement on this model?
Thank you!!

Use a thermometer to see what the temp. is and how much it changes when you move the cold control. It need to be at least 10 degrees. I suspect the cold control.

I'll definitely try the thermometer to check the cold control.
When I set it colder (to a 6) I know that it got quite a bit colder as the ice cream sandwiches were very hard relative to how they normally are at a 4 setting. However, the ice in the trays actually went from solid to soft. At a 2 (nearly the warmest setting), it pumped out ice like crazy for a day. Would the cold control be an easy DIY repair?
