The timer on the dryer continues to "tick" even after the dry cycle has completed and the clothing is dry. The only ways to get the timer to shut off are either opening the door and leaving it open, or to unplug the machine. Is this a repairable condition or does the timer have to be replaced? If the answer is the timer has to be replaced, is this a job the typical consumer can do by himself?
Thank you.

rb8941 Most likely the problem with your dryer is a bad timer. If you know how to use simple tools I believe you can replace it. The part number for the new timer is AP95865 Here are the break down diagrams for the Amana dryer Model LEA80AW Good luck. Gene.
