When I press the start button the dryer turns on and runs for about 15 seconds, gets louder, then shuts off. When I try and restart the dryer, it will not respond.

Hi,

Sounds like the motor is bad. There is a overload built into the motor.
If the motor gets hot or draws to many amps it will kill the power to the motor.

The overload will reset itself after awhile.

The motor could be full of lint, but I would guess for the short amount of time it runs before cutting out it has a bad bearing or start winding.

You could open the dryer up and check for lint build up.
Clean the lint out and try it again, but I'm guessing you will need to replace the motor to repair it.
