Read many postsand watched lots of You Tube… and all of it helped. I thought I should pay back by jotting downthe symptoms and the solution of my washers’ situation.

Kenmore Series 90Washer

History: about 12years old and running strong the whole time. Worked hard, but not abused.

Usually the motorcoupling assembly wears out/breaks. Onthis unit, the two coupling sprockets looks good and the rubber coupling wasworn, but looked rather good for 12 years of service. Probably would have run another fewyears. But, if you need to go near themotor, you may as well replace this $10 part(s)… which I did.

OK, the importantstuff… the symptoms. I looked hard andlong, in my searches, but did not find an exact match… I could not find mywashers’ symptoms listed. Perhaps thissimple write up will help someone out.

1. Start a regular wash

2. Washer fills with water

3. Normal Agitation of cloths

4. *NOT working* - Drain/slow spin

a. At this point the washer is totallyquiet, but timer is still moving and will get to step 5

5. High speed spin

a. Now high speed spin while full ofwater cause motor to overheat… causing “electric motor burn odor” (which alsosmells like rubber belt burn… wife kept saying “it’s the belt!”… this machinehas no belt honey) and after a high enough temperature was reached the motorwould turn itself off.

After waiting afew minutes, allowing the motor to cool off, the washing machine could bestarted again… only to have the motor overheat again.

Issue? This is a 3 speed motor: 1-forward 2-reverselow 3-reverse high. Speed 2, reverselow, was broken. I guess I could havetested the motor, but watching the washer was a good enough clue. Step 4/Drain was not working, but Step 5/Highspeed would run and over heat motor. Notsure if a “real appliance tech” would agree that this is a sure sign of a badmotor, but sounded like it to me.

I found the partnumber at site: ********************************.com, which is part number 3352287 for thismotor. I also found a local shop whosold this part and had it in stock. Boughtat store: APED Appliance Parts in San Jose, CA. Paid about $190.

Swapping the motorwas fairly easy, many videos on how to do this. And, as mentioned, I also swapped the motor coupling.

All workingagain. If I get another 5 years out ofthis washer I would be satisfied.

Hope this helps someone.
