Hello,

A week ago my side by side refrigerator quit cooling. I took the fridge out to gain access to the rear to check and see if the evaporator fan was running. It was running and was blowing warm air. I did a detailed cleaning of the round evaporator coil with a tooth brush and shop vacuum.

I then checked the digital display and the unit was cooling down again, so I had just completed a 'miracle' repair.

Now today a week later it quit cooling again and both sides had equalized at room temperature. I again pulled the unit out to check the evaporator fan which was running but blowing room temperature air meaning the compressor was not running.

For the first time I took the cover off of the mother board and looked for any signs or arching or burns. None were found. I tapped a large 'L' shaped relay and low and behold the compressor started running. Again thinking I had completed another 'miracle' repair I turned my attention to cleaning out the interior of the fridge. After an hour of this I checked the rear again and the compressor was not running.

I assume that when the problem first appeared and I pulled the fridge out that the jarring of the wheels across a tile floor probably had the same affect as me tapping on the relay on the mother board.

I assume that I need a new mother board but is there anything else I should check as well. I am a single dad with 3 daughters in college so I cannot afford to replace parts just to have them fail again do to something else causing the failure.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
