Hi, I got this Frigidaire from my mom and ran the water line the other day. Everything sounds okay when I press the water dispenser but once the filter canister fills up, it just leaks out the top of the canister into the refrigerator.

I've disconnected the line at different points to see if it was coming out and there was no water. I just now took the filter out to see if something was wrong with that and tried it. Once again the canister filled up, I could hear it, and then it started leaking out the top of the canister again.

I'm assuming that my line is plugged somewhere between the line coming out of the filter and going into the switching valves where it separates into two lines, one to the water and one to the freezer but I'm just guessing.

Any thoughts on how to fix this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Did it work properly when it was at your mom's house?

The model number you posted is incorrect. Verify and repost it.

Hi Gene,

Yes it worked great at my mom's. We did have it sitting in storage last winter until now so maybe the filter is ruined because of that. I also thought of blowing air through the lines to see if something is clogged. But I'm not sure how that could've happened because none of the hoses were taken apart when we moved it. I was just sitting in the storage unit and it's had planty of time to thaw if there was frozen water in there.

Model numbe is...FRS6R2FB2 at least I think that's it.

Thank you Gene,
Ted
Oh yeah, and my mom never changed the filter and I think she had it for a number of years. But like I said, it worked great when she had it.

I don't know where do you live, but if there is really cold winter with temperatures bellow 32°F, it is very likely the water left in the water filter and water lines was frozen and could damage those parts because frozen water expands.

If this is true then you have to replace the water filter, the water filter housing and the water filter cup. You also have to inspect all water line tubes.

- The water filter housing Part number: AP3267542

Hey Gene, thanks for your response. I think what I'm finding right now is that there is no suction going out of the filter canister. Should this water system work even if the filter is taken out? Nothing looks broken that I can see just no suction pulling the water out of the filter area. Could that have something to do with the valves that the tube runs to where it splits, going seperately to the freeze and water dispenser?

Thanks,
Ted

Hi Ted,

The water inlet valve in your refrigerator has three coils.

The water line from the primary water valve (single coil valve) goes behind the trim located on the right side of the inside food compartment liner to the water filter. From the water filter the line goes to the water tank, then to the secondary water valve (two coil valve). The two coil valve dispenses water to the ice maker and to the dispenser in the door.

So there are two spots where the water flow can be stopped. They are: the water tank (#97 at the diagram) or the primary water valve.

Visually inspect the water tank and check for continuity the single coil valve. If there is continuity, check for 120 VAC to this coil while the dispenser calls for water (both doors are closed).

It is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the water filter if it has been in a refrigerator that has not been in use for awhile.

After you finished the new water filter installation, you have to purge air from the water line by flushing the system for at least 3 minutes. There will be noticeable spurts and sputters as the system pushes air out the dispenser nozzle.

Gene.
