My question concerns a Frigidaire Micro Wall Oven, Model REM77BL4. The problem is with the oven portion of the unit. When I turn on the oven, press bake, and set the temperature, the display indicates the oven on and the current oven temperature for a few seconds, then the display will go out/off within 15 seconds (shuts off) with no heat. I can repeat and get same results. The same thing happens when using broil. I noticed this happening once in a while the past couple of months but when I reset the oven temperature it would eventually take hold and work. Now it is so bad I cannot even get the oven to stay on and heat. Yesterday I got an "F5" code on the display but have not been able to duplicate.

Can you tell me what might be wrong? Could the problem be with the EOC or the oven sensor/probe? I checked for an Electronic Oven Control (EOC) on line and that part has been discontinued by the mfgr and is no longer available anywhere. If it is the EOC, do you have any ideas as to an alternative part/fix and how to proceed in completing this repair? Thanks.

Most likely the problem is a bad EOC. You were right, this part has been discontinued and is no longer available. You can try to repair the old EOC, but I can not tell you what is their rate of success.

Thanks Gene, I was also wondering if the temp. sensor/probe could cause this condition? Is there a way I can check/test the temp. sensor/probe to rule it out? And, is there a way for me to pull any fault codes from the EOC, or have it perform a self-test?

I do not think the temperature sensor is somehow connected with this problem. You can measure its resistance (about 1100 Ohms at the room temperature), but it is just waisting of your time.

The EOC can recognize a few problems by itself and if it does, then it'll show an error code. It does not have a memory to keep them and it does not have ability to perform a self test.

Gene, Have you ever sent an EOC out to a rebuilder? If so, how did it turn out. What are your feelings about rebuilding? In your's, or any of your associates experience, are these rebuilders reliable, ie. do they provide a quality repair and a quick turn around?

Also, I need to know how to separate the touch panel ribbon from the EOC. Does the ribbon plug into the EOC or is the touch panel, ribbon and EOC all one unit. The reason I ask is that it appears that the ribbon plugs into the side of the EOC but I have not been able to pull apart for fear of breakage ( it looks very delicate) . Can you tell me if the ribbon does indeed plug into the side of the EOC and if so, what is the best way to get it apart without breaking, so I can send to a rebuilder.

If you could provide a download of the repair manual for this model, it would really help.

Thanks again, Tom

Tom,

1. No, I do not have a such experience, but I've heard a lot of people did it. You can check their references on-line.

2. Looks like the ribbon plugged into the EOC. Look for any kind of locks and carefully try to pull it out.
