Whirlpool dishwasher taking 12+ hours to complete a cycle - please help!

We live in a rented place with a slimline Whirlpool for IKEA DWH C10 W dishwasher installed. At first there were no real problems with it but it's gradually started taking ages to complete a cycle - lately it's been around 6 hours, but yesterday I put it on at 2 pm and when I got up to use the loo at half 2 in the morning, it was still going. I stopped it and restarted it this morning (maybe I shouldn't have, I was half asleep) but it's still going now, hours later.
Does anyone know why this could be happening? My husband reckons it's because we overfill it but it really isn't overfull (he'd put it on with just a few bowls and a cup in it on his own) and the arm is free to spin. I'm absolutely baffled. We will talk to the landlord but just wondered if anyone had any ideas.

Try raising the water temperature to at least 130 degrees.
