I have a 20 year old Maytag A7300 that burns belts if it sits for more that 3 days unused. I have replaced the belts, springs, and cleaned the pulleys and belts. It will work fine the rest of the day after I get it started by applying more pressure to the motor slide bracket, which I also cleaned and re-greased. I tried adding another spring to the two recommended, but it worked so aggressively, it through water out.

Did you adjust the pump belt tension as described in the attached instructions?

Make sure the washer is leveled properly.

Thanks for your quick reply Gene.
My washer is dead level, and I did attempt to follow the directions for tightening the belt. I will do it again today. I have no problem with the pump belt, it only seems to be the drum belt. It just seems that the agitator is "stuck" until I apply extra pressure from the motor sled to free it the first time, and then it works fine the rest on the day and the next. It does not feel stuck when I spin the pulley by hand.

When you adjust the pump belt tension you actually adjust the tension for both belts.
