My admiral dishwasher starts, runs for a few minutes then shuts off. It starts again then shuts off again after a few minutes. Water runs into the machine and drains. The dishwasher is 5 to 6 years old. Any idea of what the problem could be would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds to me like you may have a bad motor winding. You may want to do a continuity test on the run winding (It should be clearly indicated on your wiring chart). Test itwhile it is cold; then heat it with a blow dryer or a heat gun (ON ITS COOLEST SETTING), and test it again.
