A year ago thanksgiving, we had the oven ignitor replaced.(501A)(appliance service person) That ignitor had wires that had been very hot. About half way betgween the ignitor and the connecting terminal the insulation covering the wires was blackened. A new ignitor solved that issue.
Today the oven quit again and when i removed the ignitor, the plastic connection terminal was baked. Looks like the terminal on the wires from the oven controls is useable, but definately overheated. The connector on the ignitor is toasted. Any suggestions to cure that problem?? Seen it before?? And, can the connector on the control side be replaced easily, or does GE have a new pigtail with the connector on it?? Thanks for any info.

Gene. That would be: PGS968TEM2WW Have you got a fix? The plug on my ignitor was pretty badly damaged by head. It is black, one of the locking clips on the side was melted/burned off and the other just crumbled when I touched it. The other end (stove end) was mostly black with a bit of white at the far end.

Sounds like the plug was exposed to high heat. The best solution is to avoid using this plug and splice in the new igniter, using a high temperature porcelain wire nuts. You can use the oven igniter made by GE which does not have a plug, cost less money, has longer wires and comes with the high temperature wire nuts. - The oven igniter Part number: AP2634719
